The game is played on a 12 foot square playing field. There are two core nerve Ortiz's red and blue at opposite corners of the field and between them is the center vortex which can freely rotate. The game elements include particles 3.75 inches in diameter and 2 cat balls 21 inches in diameter which are placed in the center vortex assembly. Prior to the start of the match teams place their robots on the field touching the wall in front of their alliance stations.

The match begins with a 30-second autonomous period, during this period teams can only score using only pre-programmed instructions and sensor inputs. Following the autonomous period is the two-minute driver controlled period, in which the drivers operate the Robots.

  • Each particle scored to the center vortex earns five points.
  • Each particle scored into corner vortexes earns one point.
  • Alliances may capture or recapture a beacon, whichever color is lit up at the end of that match earns that Alliance 10 points.
